The quiet corners of Raichak that most visitors seem to miss

While planning my Raichak adventure, I had a rough plan about how my Raichak trip should be. I wanted to explore Raichak Fort, have a relaxing weekend by the banks of the Hooghly River, and sneak away from the city’s chaos. However, as I began discovering Raichak, I realised the places that left a special spot in my heart were not on any traveller’s bucket list. They were simple and allowed me to unwind in Raichak without any specific purpose.

Raichak Ghat was a great place to start my day

As I reached Raichak Ghat, the first place on my itinerary, the gentle morning breeze welcomed me. The Hooghly River looked so serene and picturesque with a few fishing boats making slow rides across the waters. Even the morning sun was bright enough to have a clear view of the horizon.

I sat by the river banks for quite some time admiring the beauty of this place. Since I did not have any specific agenda, there were no distractions, making me feel incredibly relaxed.

The roads around Raichak Fort were the perfect escape

Like every other traveller, I also had Raichak Fort in my mind, which made me explore the roads by the river’s edge. Since Raichak Fort is a popular tourist spot, most people I met suggested I begin my adventure by visiting this place. I wandered around villages, small temples, and ponds, discovering new things at every turn.

Every road I took had a unique charm, leading me closer to the river or revealing pleasant views of the horizon. I kept exploring, not because I had something specific to achieve but to enjoy the peace of Raichak.

I had more time in Raichak because I planned ahead

One thing that made the trip easier was finishing my hotel booking online before leaving for Raichak. So instead of wasting time looking for hotels on reaching Raichak after leaving from Binsar, I could just check in at the hotel, drop my bags and reach Raichak Ghat in no time. 

Raichak’s Diamond Harbour Road surprised me the most

Diamond Harbour Road, in particular, surprised me the most as I had planned to have a quick ride on this road to the next destination. As expected, the road had its share of excitement as green fields, farms, and charming villages captured my attention, making me stop several times to enjoy the view. Nonetheless, it did not stop me from reaching Raichak, which I did in the evening. I spent my evening by the riverside watching the sun set on the horizon, mesmerised by the beauty of the Hooghly River.

Simple Bengali meals made my day at Raichak even more enjoyable

After spending a lovely day outdoors, I felt famished and decided to try some local Bengali vegetarian food. To my surprise, I found the meals incredibly tasty and satisfying. In fact, I enjoyed eating there so much that I ordered the same dishes for my last day in Raichak.

I had steaming hot luchi with potato curry for breakfast, followed by rice, moong dal, shukto, and seasonal vegetable curry for lunch. As I was leaving, I could not resist having some mishti doi and sandesh to end my meal on a sweet note.

The simple and humble Bengali food was perfect for a day spent exploring Raichak. I did not feel the need to rush through my meals as the ambience and flavours made me want to savour every bite.

The quieter side of Raichak stayed with me

This weekend in Raichak was short and simple, but it has already begun to change the way I approach my future getaways. The Raichak Fort, my favourite, will always hold a special place in my heart. However, this time, I think the road to Raichak made the most significant imprint on me.

Raichak is so pretty, and its scenic beauty will always stay with me. The places I discovered all allowed me to slow down and savour the moment. If I return to Raichak someday, I will make sure to find more such places.
