Boarded up pub to be given new lease of life this summer

A former busy pub is set to be handed over to new tenants this summer.

The Sands, next to the Ainsdale beach gateway, has now been listed with Savills estate agents, with potential tenants asked to send in their plans for the pub before July 1. The pub is available for a 125-year-long leasehold with proposals for the redevelopment of the pub currently being accepted.

Sefton Council has listed the pub with the hope of finding someone who will transform it. Should the proposals be accepted by the council, the preferred developer will be granted a building licence whereby, on completion of the redevelopment work, the leasehold would be granted.

The property is also permitted to be used as a hotel, with prospective buyers encouraged to make their own enquiries. Listed with Savills, the listing says: “The former hotel is situated on the Coastal Road between Southport and Formby. It has a large car park and is within walking distance of Ainsdale Station. It is handy for walkers and cyclists using the Sefton Coastal Path (Crosby to Crossens), the Trans Pennine Trail and the soon to be opened section of the England Coast Path.

“On the instructions of Sefton MBC we are offering the former Sands Public House as a redevelopment opportunity. We are seeking proposals for this important gateway location with a prominent position close to the nearby leisure amnesties of Ainsdale beach.

“Redevelopment proposals & offers are to be received by no later than Friday 1st July 2022. Once selected the preferred developer will initially be granted a Building Licence, whereby on completion of the redevelopment the new 125-year-long leasehold title would be granted.”
